Auntie Patty, Lexi exclaimed, Mildred bit me!  What were you doing at the time?  Trying to pet Chocolate Darwin (Darwin was Mildred’s baby, by the way baby alpacas are called a crias).  Did you ask Mildred if you could play with her baby?  No.  Why don’t you try asking her first if you can play with her baby?  Lexi walked back to the herd of alpaca females with their cria and did not return for a half hour.  When she did return she was smiling and exclaimed, Aunty Patty it worked!  What worked?  I asked Mildred if I could touch her baby and she let me hug Chocolate Darwin!

Mildred is the matriarch of our alpaca herd. As matriarch, she stands guard in uncertain times. Mildred was born at the quarantine station in Key West, Florida. She is a Full Bolivian Alpaca and stands over 5 feet tall.
