Dianne Roadcap, the Pet Psycic, Visits Capital Alpacasby Patricia Bronson |

| Dianne Roadcap, a local pet psychic, visited our alpaca farm one day mostly to talk to our Monk Parrot Walter who was having issues because we were his third home. Of course, I wanted to show off all my animals so after she was done talking to the parrots, out we went to talk to the alpacas. I took her first to talk to the females. I was curious to see which one of the alpacas would be the first to talk to Dianne, so I asked, who is talking? She said they were communicating as a single entity and that they seemed pretty content. After a few minutes she pointed to Mildred, who was standing in front of her and said, this one is emerging as the lead speaker but there is an animal behind me that is talking. | ||||||||||||
| The animal behind her was Lilly, Mildred’s daughter. The identification of Mildred as the matriarch of the family and Lilly did not impress me as these animals are very large alpacas with an attitude of being in charge. | ||||||||||||

Dianne made an impression on me when she announced that Mildred was sad because she lost her baby. Mildred had miscarried a few weeks earlier and we were all still pretty sad about the loss. Dianne did a really good job that day talking to all the animals. She certainly got their personalities. |

| After she left I ran into the house and wrote down as many of the things she said that I could remember.
The best pet pshycic story I have involves one of my herd sires, Annapolis. When we first moved our herd of 5 alpacas to our farm in Vienna, Virginia we had a very nice large, well constructed shed that the previous owner referred to as the tennis gazebo, because it had a beautiful porch that was next to the tennis court (that is another story). |

Having the five alpacas in this one structure was good at first, but as the alpacas grew and our first cria born, the boys started to get aggressive toward each other. Annapolis was creating more trouble than everyone else combined so I decided he was going to move into the alpaca trailer. I built a small barnyard with those green movable panel gates, that are indispensible on an alpaca farm, around the back end of the trailer for Annapolis’ bachelor pad, and there he lived alone. During the winter Robert and I got home each night after dark, and so it was after dark they we took care of the animals. We simply turned on the house floodlights and went out to clean up and feed the alpacas. Now what does this have to do with the best “Dianne Roadcap, the Pet Psychic” story I have? you might ask. By this time Annapolis had moved out of the trailer and into his own field away from the house and tennis court. Annapolis was standing alone, in the middle of the day, when Dianne and I walked up to him. Dianne stood quietly for a few minutes and then she said “he says it is like the moon but it is on all the time”. Did you guess yet? Almost every night we forgot to turn out the floodlight and it was shining right into Annapolis’s digs! And that is what I have to say to anyone who thinks we cannot communicate with animals or that pet psychics are a crock. |
